Workout Types

RowHero has two types of workouts for teams.



Current WorkoutScheduled Workout
SummaryThe workout that the whole team is performing at the same time. Not set up ahead of time.A workout set up ahead of time for a specific date (or date range). May be used for the whole team or a subset of the team. Includes instructions for athletes to complete (e.g., warm-up, rate caps, etc.).

Best for:


  • When you want to get started quickly without extra work
  • When the whole team is doing the same workout (including on the same machines) and no make-ups are allowed

  • Workouts you assign to athletes on their own
  • OR When you want to give special instructions to athletes in writing
  • OR When different athletes need to do different workouts at the same time (e.g. some erg and some bike)
  • OR When it may take more than 1 day for all your athletes to complete the workout
  • OR Athletes may make up the workout on a different day.

* Note that athletes cannot end the current team workout on their own. As a coach, you must end the workout in order to do another one.


Current Team Workout

No setup is required for the current team workout; there is always one “active” team workout. Athletes will start their workout by tapping on the team, and after their first piece, RowHero will collect all the results together for you in an easy-to-read format.


Team workouts will be ended automatically 1 hour after the last piece is submitted.


If you want to end this manually, you must tap End Workout on the Team Rankings Screen.



Scheduled Workouts

Scheduled workouts require some setup, but offer a number of advantages—they can stay active for multiple days; you can prescribe specific instructions for athletes, and you can have multiple active workouts at a time for rowers to choose from.


For the best experience, we recommend you schedule your workout ahead of time.


To do this, go to your Team's Home screen (tap the photo in the top left to access the main menu), and then tap on your team.


Then tap the + button in the top right. You'll see the New Team Workout Screen below.



Fill in the details of the workout:


  • Title. The name of the workout. This will show up to athletes when selecting a workout to perform. Make sure this is clear and succinct.
  • Starts. The first date athletes are able to perform this workout.
  • Ends. The last date athletes are able to perform this workout.
  • Description. Includes workout instructions or parameters to follow. Athletes can see this mid-piece if they choose.


Tap the Save Workout button. Athletes will now be able to see this workout on their home page when the current date is between the Starts and Ends dates.
